I was born in Chester, Cheshire the United Kingdom. Also known in the TV Industry as So Rahman, I Studied at the University of Westminster in London and graduated with a B.A. Honours Degree in Photography, Film, and Video in 1991. I also have a BTEC National Diploma in Audio Visual studies gained from N.E.W.I. in Wrexham, North Wales as well as A and O level passes at Kingsway High School, Chester. I have enjoyed academic success at all levels, having also completed the nationally recognized BTEC Professional Certificate in Management Studies 2000 through ITV Granada Television and Manchester Open Learning.
A keen basketball player I represented Chester at school boy level, and I am a keen tennis player and frequent visitor to the gym. I enjoy traveling and have toured Europe extensively along with Argentina, Austria, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Cambodia, France, Finland, Germany, Greece, India, Italy, Indonesia, Ireland, Jordan, Japan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Latvia, Malta, Malaysia, Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, Philippines, Portugal, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan, Tunisia, Uruguay, U.A.E, and USA. I speak five Indian languages along with French and a little German.
I have won many awards the most recent nomination was for a U.S. Television Emmy for my work as a correspondent during Nepal
Earthquake of 2015, Royal Television Society North West Awards 2003 as Best Television Presenter in November 2003 for my work on the regional news program ‘Granada Reports’ and crime-solving program ‘Crimefile’.Nominated for the Lloyds TSB Asian Jewel Awards 2004 for my contribution to the Media in the Media and Arts category. I have also won The Asian Film Academy Award as Best Television Presenter in 1993, 1995 and 1996 for the BBC and Granada Television.
