A fluent speaker of five South Asian languages, and an award-winning journalist Sohail (So) Rahman is a Senior News Anchor and Correspondent for Al Jazeera International News \u2013 English . He has been presenting and reporting television news for over 28 years at some of the top broadcasting stations in the world, including Granada, ITV, BBC, Channel 4 in the UK and CNN.
In addition to being one of Al Jazeera English\u2019s main presenters news at headquarters in Doha, Sohail has been stationed as Senior Correspondent to South Asia based in New Delhi and Senior Correspondent to Asia Pacific in Kuala Lumpur<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He is one of a few international correspondents who has access and reported from the troubled tribal areas of North West Pakistan, having reported exclusively on the militants in Swat and in areas bordering Afghanistan.
He has also broken many of the top news stories in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal and Pakistan 2007-2015, regarding their respective General Elections as well as The Nepal Earthquake 2015, Bangladesh\u2019s State of Emergency 2007, as well as the devastating floods of 2010 in North West Pakistan and the historic vote for Narendra Modi in the 2014 & 2019 Indian General Elections<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sohail was the only international news anchor and correspondent present in Pakistan during the assassination and aftermath of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in December 2007. He broadcast live continuously on Al Jazeera English for the first 24 hours as the country plunged into civil chaos with riots breaking out as a result of her murder. His live reports were carried on television and radio by news partners in the USA, Australia and New Zealand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While in Kuala Lumpur, Sohail has covered stories as varied as The State Funeral of Singapore Leader, Lee Kuan Yew 2015, the ongoing search for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, The Philippines Presidential Election 2016, Japan Upper House Elections in 2016, as well as Fukushima after the Tsunami and clean up, drought in Thailand and the MERS outbreak in South Korea in 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sohail was nominated for a USA TV Emmy for his reporting of The Nepal Earthquake. Serious news apart, Sohail has been able to turn his hand to lighter coverage, everything from The Singapore International Garden Festival to the Diwali celebrations in India, and the Pan European \u2018Eurovision Song Contest 2012\u2019 from Baku<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prior to joining Al Jazeera English, Sohail made his mark as a reporter with international expertise in South Asia and the Middle East during the September 11th attacks in the United States. He was the first ITV reporter to record the reaction inside Pakistan and throughout the region. Sohail was the first British Muslim man in the UK to present the ITV National news and the ITV Granada regional news.
